Constantin Cosmin

Stepping into his remarkable studio adjacent to London Bridge is akin to crossing into a new dimension, a different planet. There is a palpable magic about him, reminiscent of being dusted with stardust. Having collaborated with John Lennon and interviewed luminaries such as Basquiat, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, I have encountered a few rare individuals enveloped by an unmistakable aura. Constantin Cosmin is unquestionably one of these exceptional artists.

Statement

Apart from the act of expression itself, my quest is to do something distinct. The modernists focused more on their works and less on explaining them. In today's contemporary world, it often seems the opposite.

Walking through art fairs, it's clear that people rarely pause to truly observe the works, there's an overwhelming similarity and a lack of visual impact. In my pursuit of perfecting a style that is uniquely mine, I aim for people to stop and take in the work. It doesn’t matter whether they like it or not, I just want them to pause and look, and they always do. That, for me, is an achievement. Fitting in is simple: just replicate what works. Everyone knows this, but few admit it. Artists have even mastered the art of feigning genius, but surviving the centuries requires more than mere craft.

So, yes, I will start with that notion. As Jean Wainwright mentioned in our interview, artists are under no obligation to explain their works. For me, the ultimate compliment is not monetary, it's that people stop to look at my creations, whether in horror, admiration, amazement, or shock. They stop, and that’s something.
